Oman Motocross Club – Press Release

Posted by hein On September - 30 - 2009

NEWS RELEASE

Following a busy and close-fought Motocross Championship in 2009, Oman Motocross Club members took a summer break from competitions. Now that the main holiday season is over, the Holy Month of Ramadan and the Eid Al Fitr celebrations have passed, the club is gearing itself up for its busiest competitive season yet.

During the closed season much activity behind the scenes has been going on, obtaining approvals from the Oman Automobile Association to organise and run another Motocross series, Supermoto series and Enduro series in the 2010 season that starts on October 2 nd 2009. At its Annual General Meeting on 28 th September, the club voted to allow quad riders to join and use the club’s facilities and enter events from 1 st October 2009, and has organised a race schedule that allows for all three types of event to take place in the 2010 season.

Aflah Al Awati, the Oman Motocross Club’s newly elected Chairman said,

I am really honoured to have been elected as Chairman of the Oman Motocross Club. It is important that the Club has Omani nationals well represented, helping with all of its activities – not just the riding and racing, so that the club’s future can be assured.

Without a doubt, the Club’s season this year is going to be very exciting. The Supermoto series, where motocross machines are raced on dirt track and blacktop using the motocross and kart circuit on the OAA site, will be really exciting, well supported, closely fought and exhilarating to watch and compete in.

The motocross series will be as hard fought as last season, and we expect even closer racing as riders battle for Championship honours and continue to improve their experience and skills both on the ground and in the air!

The inclusion of quads from 1 st October 2009 in Oman Motocross Club’s activities will introduce another element of excitement for riders and spectators alike. Quads will be included in the same race series as bikes, but in separate races, which will at least give the bike riders a breather in between race heat! The club now welcomes applications for membership from quad owning enthusiasts.

There are a large number of quad owners in Muscat, and we are now able to offer them an organised facility with the potential for competition in a controlled environment. The members owning quads are subject to the same membership conditions and bye-laws, and cannot arrive on-site unless the machine is carried on another road-legal vehicle or a trailer. You might say this our small contribution to road safety in Muscat – encouraging quads on to a track where they can be used safely, responsibly as well as competitively.

Our continuing commitment to encouraging riders into the sport, from the very young who ride in the ‘Pee-wee’ class, our novice rider school and a variety of different tracks suitable for all skill levels, really does create a Club which has a desire to offer something really special to the community.”

Solo membership of Oman Motocross Club costs OMR 20 per year, and family membership just OMR 35. Further details can be found on the Club’s website www.omanmx.com or email secretary@omanmx.com . Membership application forms can be downloaded from the website and must be handed in to the Oman Automobile Association’s offices situated close to the ROP’s vehicle inspection facility near Muscat International Airport.
