To set up your Garmin ForeTrex 201 for proper operation during a Dubai Motocross Club Baja event, follow the sequence below. Note this will erase all tracks, routes and way-points you have saved on the unit so download and save them with MapSource first if you want to re-load them later.

Waypoints Delete All

Tracks → Clear Track

Tracks Delete All Saved

Routes → Delete All

Setup →Set Units

Position Format → H D ° M’S.S”

MAP Datum → WGS 84

Distance/SPD → Metric

Elevation → Meters

VSPD → M/Min

Set Display

Adjust Contrast up if required.

Adjusting it up will reduce battery life but increase visibility, especially in direct sunlight.

Routes → Setup Routes

Route Leg Transition → Distance

Distance 100 Meters

Bring the unit with to scrutineering, ready for the event route to be loaded.

If anyone is interested in going through the operation and usage of the device contact me and I will gladly run a session to go through the functions that will improve your experience with this device.

Are there any reccommended dealers for the Garmin ForeTrex 201 in Dubai?

  2. hein says:

Gecko Motorcycles usually keep them in stock, Sharaf DG also keep some from time to time. “Amit” in Diera , close to the creek in Dubai, is one of the main dealers if you have the patience to deal with the standard incompetence .

As far as I know they are about to be end-of-life’d by Garmin, currently looking for alternatives myself.

  3. Chris says:

I have a Garmin 60C which has more options than the ForeTrex 201, and is already out of production. I am guessing any robust, Garmin GPS would be acceptable during the new season as long as you can program in the way points?

  4. hein says:

The 60C works perfectly for the purpose. Do not know if it will be acceptable this season. Remember DMX will not run the Baja’s this season, the EMSF/FIM office has taken them over, so what the rules and requirements will be is up to them. I just hope they keep it accessable to everyone in terms of equipment and cost.

  5. Chris says:

Thanks Hein. Hope it will be the same format as per previous years as that is what has attracted me to the series. Cannot find any info on the EMSF website so hope someone will clarify it all soon.

What you see here are mostly photos taken at motocross and baja races held in the United Arab Emirates. Facilities currently exist in Dubai (Dubai Motocross Club - DMX) and Umm Al Quwain (Emirates Motorplex - UAQ).
